Who We Are:
The Kansas New Practitioners Network (KNPN) consists of KPhA members who have earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree within the last five years. 

Our Mission:
To engage recent graduates during the transition from student pharmacist to practitioner by promoting peer networking, professional development, and political advocacy in Kansas.

KNPN Executive Committee

 Chair: Ashley Shogren, PharmD

Ashley is a community pharmacist at El Dorado TrueCare Pharmacy in El Dorado, KS. She graduated from KU School of Pharmacy in 2014. Ashley currently serves as a New Practitioner Mentor to the students of the Wichita Campus APhA-ASP Chapter. She is currently on the United Way of El Dorado Board and enjoys being active in her community. In her spare time, Ashley enjoys watching baseball and spending time with her dog, Lily.

 Committee Member: Nick Schulte, PharmD

Nick is a PGY1 Community Practice Resident from the University of Kansas. Nick’s interests are community pharmacy management and new service development. Outside of residency, Nick enjoys watching and attending Sporting KC and KU basketball games, making music, and watching movies. After residency, Nick hopes to work in a community setting where he can provide needed services to his patients and the community while mentoring pharmacy students. Nick can be contacted at nickschultepharm@gmail.com.

Committee Member: Amanda Cather, PharmD

Amanda graduated from KU School of Pharmacy in 2015.  She is currently a community pharmacist at Irwin Potter Drug in Anthony, KS.  Irwin Potter Drug is an independent community pharmacy that has many extra services including filling monthly cycle for many long term care facilities, compounding, MTM and is currently working to get an immunization program started.  Outside of work, Amanda enjoys watching college football and basketball as well as spending time out in the country with her husband and their Miniature Australian Shepherd, Dally, on their family farm.

Committee MemberFrank Fanizza, PharmD

Frank is currently a PGY1 Community Practice Resident with Balls Food Stores and the University of Kansas. He currently practices at Hen House Pharmacy in Olathe, KS, and provides immunizations, point of care testing, and employee wellness programs.  Frank graduated in 2016 from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, NC. In his spare time, Frank enjoys golfing, playing basketball, and watching his Tar Heels. If needed, Frank can always be reached at his email frank.fanizza@ballsfoods.com.

 Student Liaison: Christina Yuan, PharmD Candidate 2017

​​​​Christina is a 4th year pharmacy student and hopes to influence patient care on a large scale with managed care pharmacy, pharmacoeconomics, and industry marketing strategies. Previously, Christina was the President of KU School of Pharmacy APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists.

Annual Social Events

Spring Financial Planning Dinners 

  • Who should attend: all KU student pharmacists are welcome!

  • Goal: To give students an opportunity to ask a financial expert questions about how to manage educational debt after graduation and improve understanding of financial planning resources
  • Note: These meetings will occur in the Spring of each year. Please watch this site and your email for next years dates and locations once announced!

    Fall Event at KPhA Annual Meeting & Trade Show | September 28 - October 1, 2017 | Lawrence

    • Who should attend: all KU student pharmacists & KNPN members

    • Goal: Network with fellow students and new practitioners. The educational topics and speaker changes each year. Details will be available on this website as the Annual Meeting approaches.
    • Note: Advance registration may be required!

    Join our March Madness KPhA Bracket Challenge!

    The Kansas New Practitioners Network (KNPN) invites all KPhA members to participate in the March Madness Bracket Challenge every Spring! The winner of the challenge wins a FREE KPhA Annual Meeting & Trade Show registration this year. The annual meeting is held in the September each year. Brackets can be created until the games begin.
