Register as a pharmacy technician with the Kansas Board of Pharmacy

Kansas Pharmacy Technicians are Required to Complete Continuing Education

Kansas Pharmacy Technicians must be registered with the Kansas Board of Pharmacy and must renew their registration every two years. There are several steps needed for renewal and those steps can be found on the Board’s website.

Pharmacy technicians in Kansas are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years to renew their registration.

The CE completed must be:

  • ACPE approved and appear in your CPE Monitor, or
  • Be submitted to and approved by a state Board of Pharmacy prior to completion. Once completed, the certificate must be submitted to the Kansas Board within 30 days of completion for any state approved courses.

CE earned for a national certification can be applied to your Kansas renewal. CE does not need to be technician-specific.

Technician Continuing Education

KPhA continues to provide readily available CE credit opportunities for technicians via live programs as well as live webinars and on-demand seminars to complete at your own pace. See the Online CE opportunities that are currently available.

The Kansas Pharmacy Foundation offers 3 on-demand opioid training courses that are certified through the Kansas Board of Pharmacy. These training sessions are designed to give current information on providing naloxone in a legal, safe and effective way, as well as information on Kansas law related to naloxone; data on utilization, misuse, and abuse; and reiterate the differences between tolerance, dependence, addiction, and drug reinforcement. Also learn about CDC prescribing guidelines related to pain management. Click here to access the courses.

NOTE: PTCB requires CPhTs to manually enter continuing education (CE) hours into an online >PTCB account in order to recertify. In addition, PTCB encourages all CPhTs to register for the CPE Monitor and obtain an NABP e-Profile ID. The CPE Monitor is a national, collaborative effort by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) that allows pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to track their completed pharmacy continuing education (CPE) credits in a central system. ACPE requires all CPE credits to be processed and claimed no later than 60 days from the date of the live or on-demand activity.
