KPhA represents the pharmacy profession in the legislative arena on the local, state and national level. We alert members to critical changes and pending legislation so members can proactively influence positive change and protect their profession. KPhA is committed to creating and supporting initiatives that help to advance pharmacy practice.
- KPhA's Political Action Committee is instrumental in advocacy efforts and supports candidates that support pharmacy
- KPhA works closely with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy, the KU School of Pharmacy and other stakeholders on issues of importance to you
- KPhA hosts a "Day with the Legislature" at the Kansas Statehouse each February to acquaint association members with the legislative process, their House and Senate elected leaders and government officials to discuss important pharmacy issues
- KPhA utilizes weekly conference calls with its members and professional lobbyist to keep them up-to-date on legislation during the session
Advocacy Issues
- Regulation and oversight of Pharmacy Benefit Managers working in Kansas
- Disallowing PBMs from paying their owned pharmacies more than other they pay other contracted pharmacies
- Allowing pharmacists to deny service in light of predatory reimbursement practices by PBMs
- Secure provider status for pharmacists and pharmacies in KanCare
- Work with federal partners to secure provider status at the federal level
- Coverage parity for pharmacies in Kansas health insurance plans for patient services allowed under scope of practice
- Codifying Technician immunization authority after the expiration of the PREP Act
- Allowing pharmacies to test for flu, strep, COVID, and urinary tract infections and initiate therapies under statewide protocol
